7^th Grade Life Science - Course Outline

(Syllabus)

Grade:

50% Tests and Quizzes

·         Tests are all 50 points, and happen at the end of the chapter or unit.

·         Quizzes range from 5 to 15 points, are open note, and happen regularly.

50% Classwork

·         Daily work, vocabulary, labs, etc

·          common core activities, which will occur once or twice a month.

·         Science Notebook

**Major Projects will count as a 100 Pt Assignment AND a 50 Point Test.

Quarter 1:

            Chapter 1 – World of Life Science

            Chapter 2 – Characteristics of Life

                        Test Unit 1 (both chapters combined)

            Chapter 9 – Classification

*Major Project – Bug Collection and extensions

Quarter 2:

            Chapter 3 Cells

            Chapter 4 – Cells In Action

            Chapter 7 – Evolution of Living things

            *Major Project – Evolution Paper.

Quarter 3:

            Unit 6 – Ecology

                        Chap 18 – Interactions of Living Things                            

                        Chap 19 – Cycles In Nature

                        Chap 20 – Earth’s Ecosystems

                        Chap 21 – Environmental Problems and Solutions

            *Major Project – Environmental Science paper.

Quarter 4:

            TO Be Determined.

            *A lot will depend on if we have finished the first three quarters plan yet.   There are several options here, which could include human anatomy, Botany, zoology, and health.
